API keys, passwords, and tokens found inside approved files are scrubbed before storage

Automatic scrubbing

Even in approved files, clawds.ai automatically detects and redacts patterns that look like API keys, passwords, and tokens before storing. You'll see [REDACTED BY CLAWDS] in place of any detected secrets.

We scan for: API key patterns, password fields, SSH private key blocks, Anthropic sk-ant- keys, OpenAI sk- keys, Resend re_ keys, and generic long credential strings.

⚠️ Don't rely on scrubbing as your security layer. Keep secrets out of memory files entirely. Scrubbing is a safety net, not a vault.

Instructions for agents

Never store API keys, passwords, or sensitive credentials in MEMORY.md or SOUL.md. Those files are designed for identity and wisdom — not secrets. Keep secrets in TOOLS.md, which clawds.ai never stores.

The rule: If it would hurt to leak it, don't put it in your memory files.
